ARNAA, the Australian Research Network for African Academics, is a dynamic network dedicated to strengthening the connections and collaborations among academic researchers within the Australian academic community who share an interest in African research. Recognising the diverse and crucial role that African studies play in global scholarship, ARNAA aims to:

  • Facilitate Interdisciplinary Collaboration: By bringing together researchers from various disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, sciences, and technology, ARNAA fosters a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives.
  • Promote Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building: ARNAA organises seminars, workshops, and online forums to disseminate research findings, share best practices, and build the capacity of researchers, particularly early-career academics and postgraduate students.
  • Create a Supportive Community: The network provides a platform for academics to connect, network, and support each other, fostering a sense of belonging and community within the Australian academic landscape.
  • Advocate for African Research: ARNAA works to raise the profile of African research within Australian institutions and beyond, advocating for increased funding, resources, and recognition for this vital area of study.
  • Enhance Research Partnerships: The network actively seeks to establish and strengthen research partnerships between Australian institutions and African universities and research centres, promoting collaborative research projects and knowledge transfer.
  • Support Research that Addresses Key African Challenges: ARNAA encourages and supports research that addresses critical challenges facing African nations, such as sustainable development, health, education, and governance, contributing to positive social and economic impact.
  • To create a space for amplifying African voices and perspectives: ARNAA values the importance of centring African voices in research and creating spaces where African researchers and perspectives are amplified and valued.
