Dr Kofi Awuviry-Newton
Dr Kofi Awuviry-Newton graduated with a PhD in Gerontology and Geriatrics from the University of Newcastle, Australia. Kofi received an appointment with Victoria University as a Social Work lecturer in the College of Sport, Engineering and Health in 2022. Before his appointment, he engaged in research, teaching and course development with The University of Wollongong, the Hunter Medical Research Institute (Stroke unit), Western Sydney University, The University of Melbourne, Acknowledge Education, and Excelsia College. Kofi is a gerontologist who employs an interdisciplinary perspective (a particular focus on ageing, social work, and public health) in uncovering research evidence. In addition to his qualitative skills, he has expertise in analysing population based quantitative datasets including the World Health Organisation (WHO) study on ageing and adult health (SAGE Wave) and Australian HILDA. He is an active member and investigator of the WHO’s consortium (CARETRACK) on Measuring and Monitoring the unmet health and social care needs of older adults towards achieving the WHO Healthy Ageing 2030 Agenda
Dr Ndungi Wa Mungai
Dr Ndungi is a senior lecturer in Social work and has been at CSU since February 2010. He completed his PhD in 2011 at Deakin University, Victoria. Ndungi has also completed a BSc (agr.) (University of Nairobi); M Agr. Studies (University of Melbourne); Bachelor of Social Work (University of Melbourne), Master of Social Work (RMIT University, Melbourne) and Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (Charles Sturt University). Before joining CSU Ndungi worked in a variety of social work setting including research, telephone relationship counselling for men, counsellor/advocate in torture and trauma, caseworker for asylum seekers, housing support worker, foster care field worker and social worker at Centrelink (locum position).
